Kian-Yong Lee
Research Scientist, Gilead Sciences
Originally from Malaysia, Kian-Yong studied Biomedical Science at Hull University and pursued his PhD at Cambridge University. He then moved to California for postdoctoral research at UC San Diego. Having a background in cancer research using multidisciplinary approaches, Kian-Yong leverages his skills in his current role as a research scientist at Gilead’s manufacturing site near Los Angeles, where he contributes to various drug development and manufacturing projects, including oncology and virology programs.
During CABLE’s pilot launch, Kian-Yong mentored 5 undergraduate students from different countries on aspects such as introduction to biomedical research, PhD application and career advice.
Shankar Kurunathan
Parliamentary Researcher, Malaysia
Shankar is an engineer by trade with a keen interest in International Relations, Economics & Public Policy.
In his spare time, Shankar serves as a Youth MP at the Malaysian Youth Parliament (Dewan Muda Malaysia, an initiative powered by UNDI18 & UNICEF), advises at the COVID-19 Student Response Network (CSRN) for Malaysian Projects and works part-time as the Head of Marketing for Angsana Health, a healthcare startup based in Malaysia.
